We all believe that there is an advantage to knowing more.
Knowing the truth about which prospecting method works best should close more deals.
Knowing how to handle objections better from clients should help close more deals.
Learning how to market your business better gives you the advantage to close more deals than another realtor.
Right!
We all agree with this.
But…
And this a big but…
Nothing says that there is an actual advantage to knowing the literal truth about …
Marketing…
Prospecting…
Or growing your business.
What I’m talking about are ideas that are not true in an actual sense.
But they are true enough that if you BEHAVE as if they were true.
You come out ahead of where you would be if you behaved according to the fact that they're not true.
Let me give you some simple examples to help you understand what I mean.
Idea number one - all snakes are poisonous
They are not.
Factually, that is not true.
However, if you live near snakes and you imagine that snakes are all poisonous.
You'll give them some space consistently.
If you don't think that all snakes are poisons
You might try to pick one up.
When you do there is a chance that it might bite you trying to protect itself which can lead to feeling pain and possible infection.
So, the person who believes that all snakes are poisonous has an advantage of preventing them from experiencing considerable pain and infection regardless of the fact that what they think to be true is not.
Here’s another example
Idea number two - Toothaches are caused by tooth worms
Up until the 18th century, most people believed that toothaches were caused by tooth worms.
Which is of course false, no really it is, lol.
But since those who behaved as if it was true brushed their teeth in an effort to displace these worms.
They had an advantage in preventing toothaches and even death.
You see, while they didn't have worms in their teeth.
They did have organisms in their teeth called...
Bacteria…
These days very few people die because of their teeth.
But when doctors in London began listing causes of death in the 1600s.
Teeth were consistently listed as the fifth or sixth leading cause.
Alright, let's bring this back to the topic at hand.
The Idea that is literally false but metaphorically true that is destroying your real estate business is,
You just need to work hard to be successful...
That's right, work hard and you will be successful...
This idea is flat out false.
First, it goes against human nature and second very few people make it with this knowledge.
Working hard implies that the action you want to take is difficult and uncomfortable.
Now, like anything else in life you can do something uncomfortable for a few days, weeks, or months.
For example, maybe you have tried a fitness program for a few weeks and stopped.
Maybe you tried eating healthy and then stopped.
Maybe you posted on social media a few times to grow your business and then stopped.
Why does this happen to most of us?
Why do we say something is important to us, like losing weight and building a business but don’t do it?
One of the reasons is we don’t know how to behave in a way consistent enough to get the long term success we are after.
The people that tell you…
All you all have to do is work hard to be successful were lucky and can't explain it in scientific terms how they, themselves made it.
They were lucky because they were able to close a few deals to make the work feel easy, not hard.
Let me say that again.
They were able to make the work FEEL easy, not hard.
Humans didn't survive throughout history because they were chasing difficult and hard things that lead to failure every day.
They survived and prospered because they found solutions to their difficult problems.
When things are easy you have a better chance of completing it.
When you do something you say you’re going to do, like solving a problem. Where you finally prospect or following up or post on social media,
How do you feel?
You feel good right?
Because you feel good you do it again and again and again.
The best way to make things easy is by making the action you want to make a habit.
Habits are automatic actions we take throughout the day triggered by our environment.
By building habits, you can control your actions.
The more you can control your actions the bigger of an advantage you have than our realtors to grow your business.
So instead of relying on luck wouldn’t you rather learn how to be in control of your business and your life?
To recap, thinking that you just need to work hard to be successful is literally false, but metaphorically true.
It’s a simple idea shared to explain a scientific process people don’t know or understand.
What really matters is the consistent behavior or actions you take.
That's how you make a change and that how you take your business to the levels you dreamed of. The best way to do the things you want to do consistently is by making a habit.
